The lost and found peg rail series represents a project that is part of a long line of other design projects to do with found pallet wood.
Pallet wood represents an exciting humble opportunity for any maker/designer or DIYer. From Rietveld to Mari, pallet wood has been used to create fine pieces of product design. Alongside this has existed a big subculture of pallet wood objects often ridiculed as naive crafty objects. There is little that should be ridiculed however as they sum up a simple idea of making use what is ready at hand to solve simple problems.
My collection of peg rails is in response to a particular aspect of pallet wood, namely the knotty sections as pallet wood is usually made with cheaper sections of pine. I have embraced the individual nature of each knot to create the notches essential for good coat pegs. I also wanted it to act as a showcase that the timber surrounding a knot is not a weakness if cut in the correct way. Knots are usually always seen as defects. I wanted to embrace them and use them as the core of the project.
